Class Description
Early Childhood Developement will focus on the learning about the period of birth to 5 years of age. We will focus on developmental milestones, skills, and concepts that children attain during this period of their lives. We will also learn how children learn social-emotional skills, beginning of numeracy, literacy, and critical thinking. We will focus on levels of development including exploring appropiate play and toys at different levels. At times during the semester the class will visit and possibly lead an activity in the preschool and pre-k class. There maybe times students will need to research teaching materials from either books, catalogs, or the internet at home. We will make some easy sensory toys or games that can be used in a classroom or a little one. This class will be a great start for any students hoping to learn how to effectively work in younger aged classrooms, babysitting, or other opportunities with preschool aged children. This will be a hands-on class that will have discussions and group projects on top of visiting the preschool and pre-k classrooms. If there is a desire the class may continue into the spring with elementary development.
