Class Description
Diving Deep
To "dive deep" or "Go down the rabbit hole" is the greatest new past time of the electronic generation! So if your kid’s favorite resource is the dictionary, encyclopedia, fact book, Wikipedia or Google then this is their class!!
Our journey will begin with real life case examples of teens who found themselves in the juvenile justice system for breaking laws. We’ll hear the facts presented, how the applicable laws came to be, how they apply in the case presented, extenuating circumstances considered by the judge and how everything applies to our lives today and going forward. Well use a secondary book by the same author to look at our rights and see how they do or do not apply to our personal actions under the law.
This is a student led class where their questions, thoughts, ideas and opinions will lead the discussion but each week I will offer something too. Relevant learning will include how to decide what to research, determine fact from fiction, truths from the lies, recognize conspiracy theories, analyze yellow journalism, use critical thinking skills, enter into some lively, moderated in-class debate and leave all the wiser about how we and our actions fit into the world.
