Class Description
Unleash your inner chef and scientist in Chemistry in the Kitchen! This course is designed for students who love science and want to explore its practical applications in everyday life. We'll dive into the chemical reactions behind cooking, baking, and food preservation, turning the kitchen into a laboratory. From understanding the science of flavor to mastering molecular gastronomy, you'll learn down-to-earth science that you'll use and enjoy knowing for the rest of your life. Get ready to cook up some knowledge and transform your culinary skills with a dash of chemistry! In addition we will be examining popular recipe reels and the science behind weather we think they will work or fail and some we will even try out.
This curriculum is specially designed for the families/students that aren't interested in the higher math in chemistry. This class can be used as your student's chemistry credit or as supplementary. If you are interested in more indepth work than we do in class or how to support your student please don't hesitate to contact me. I can also offer suggestions for math supplements to add to the chemistry credit. This is a year long curriculum and maybe extended if there is interest in continued studies.
Each week reading and watching videos will be assigned in our google classroom. It is suggested that students do that before class and work in their provided workbook to add to discussion in class and our class experiment.
Students will receive a workbook that will be used each week and will be answered with the reading and class experiments. Some books on the list are required to purchase because your student will write or color in them but most can be found at the library or on library apps if you don't want to purchase them. The books in the below list are in order of how we will use them. They are not all needed at once and you will be given at least 2 weeks notice before we will need them. We may not use them all so I would wait to find them until we need them unless they esspecially interest you.
