Course Overview: History of Modern America (1865–Present)
This course covers the pivotal events, movements, and transformations that shaped the United States from the end of the Civil War to the modern era.
We will begin our journey with Reconstruction, examining how the nation attempted to rebuild and redefine itself directly after the Civil War.
Following this foundational unit, the course will transition into a weekly topical format. Each week, we will dive into a brand-new subject to explore the social, economic, and political shifts that created the America we know today. Focus will be from the years 1877-present day .

This class focuses strictly on American history as presented in our assigned historical texts. My role is to facilitate the study of these facts and events, not to impose personal opinions.
Open discussion, critical thinking, and questions are highly encouraged. However, all classroom debates must remain kind, fair, and respectful. Disrespectful, hostile, or intolerant behavior will not be tolerated .
The Goal: We are here to learn basic American history using our current curriculum.
The Environment: While we encourage sharing and questions related to the lesson, conversations must remain kind, fair, and age-appropriate.
Off-Topic Policy: To ensure all students can learn, classroom time must remain on-topic. If a student continually disrupts the lesson by talking about unrelated matters, they will be removed from the class. No refunds will be issued.
